DUSHI, Afghanistan, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Work for asphalting a key road linking Afghanistan's central Bamyan province to northern Baghlan province has begun, governor of Dushi district Sahibdad Ghafoori said.

The 250-million-U.S. dollar project, financed by the World Bank, according to the official, would be completed within the next three years.

Ghafoori also added that work for asphalting the essential road with 154 km length and 10 meters wide, begun from Dushi district recently and has also provided job opportunities for hundreds of the locals living at nearby villages.

Once the road is asphalted it would enable millions of people, mostly farmers living in the central region to take their agricultural products to Baghlan and northern provinces onward to the central Asian states including Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Meantime, locals living along the under-construction road have expressed concerns over the presence of anti-government militants and their opposition to building the road.

However, Ghafoor rebuffed the locals' concerns, saying, "Taliban won't disturb" the work for asphalting the essential road.
