TOKYO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by Wall Street's overnight rise.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 204.09 points, or 0.95 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,620.88.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.45 points, or 0.80 percent, to finish at 1,568.82.
Marine transportation, textile and apparel, and oil and coal product-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
