Cambodia sees rise in crackdowns on human, sex trafficking crimes in H1

PHNOM PENH, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has seen a 25.8 percent increase in crackdowns on human and sex trafficking crimes in the first half of 2019, the National Police said on Tuesday.

The authorities had foiled 78 human and sex trafficking-related cases during the January-June period this year, up 25.8 percent from 62 over the same period last year, the National Police said on its website, citing a National Committee for Counter-Trafficking (NCCT)'s report.

"A total of 97 suspects, including nine juveniles and 14 foreigners, had been arrested during the first half of this year, up 14 percent from 85 over the same period last year," the National Police said.

The authorities had rescued 263 victims during the crackdowns, up 148 percent from 106, the report said, adding that 70 of the victims were under 15 years old.

According to the National Police, the report was released during a NCCT's biannual meeting.
