MADRID, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The Consumer Price Index in Spain stood at 0.5 percent for July, according to preliminary data published by the Spanish Statistical Office (INE) on Monday.

The figure rises compared to the inflation rate of 0.4 percent in June, which the INE attributes mainly to the evolution in the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Spain began 2019 with an inflation rate of 1 percent in January, and this rose in the early months of the year to 1.3 percent in March and 1.5 percent in April, before falling to 0.8 percent in May and 0.4 percent in June.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate in July 2018 was 2.2 percent, with inflation climbing to as high as 2.3 percent in October of last year.

INE will publish more detailed definitive data next month.
