NEW DELHI, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The flood situation in India's eastern state of Bihar continues to be grim, officials said on Tuesday.

According to officials, over 8.8 million people in over 13 districts were affected by floods.

"There is no improvement in floods and the situation is grim in Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur," an official posted in Patna said. "Over a dozen villages under Sugauli block of East Champaran have been inundated following a breach of ring bund."

Bihar has been reeling under floods since earlier this month following torrential rainfall in neighboring Nepal.

"The floods have pushed water level in Kosi, Bagmati, Ganga, Burhi Gandak and Adhwara rivers above the danger mark," the official said.

Floods have also affected road and rail traffic in the inundated areas.

The railway authorities have canceled 11 trains due to floods and intensified patrolling along railway tracks in view of rising water level.

According to officials, about 900 personnel of disaster response force personnel have been pressed into service for relief and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the death toll in floods in the state has risen to 127.

A local government spokesman said so far relief money has been transferred into the bank accounts of 836,000 affected people.

Floods have also ravaged the northeastern state of Assam, killing 80 people and affected 3.8 million.
