MOSCOW, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Russian law enforcement agencies have foiled 17 terrorist attacks in the first six months of this year, First Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Buksman said Tuesday.

"The danger of hotbeds of terrorist activities' emergence in the country's regions persists, which is confirmed by the stable number of prevented terrorist attacks," Buksman said at a meeting with senior prosecutors.

He said terrorists have concentrated on creating so-called sleeping cells, engaging new members via the Internet, and searching for sources and methods of financing.

He said prosecutors, together with law enforcement agencies, should focus on identifying and suppressing such activities and make significant efforts to protect people at places of mass gatherings.

A total of 19 terrorist attacks were prevented in the first half of 2018, he added.
