COLOMBO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's apparel industry is eyeing 5.5 billion US dollars in export earnings this year, a 10-percent growth compared with last year, local media reported on Tuesday.

Chairman of Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA), Rehan Lakhany told local media that the apparel industry recorded 5 billion U.S. dollars in export earnings last year and has set a long-term target of 8 billion U.S. dollars by 2025.

"We believe with the achievements we have seen in the first half of this year, we are on track to achieve our goals by 2025," he added.

He further said the island's apparel industry has seen the highest growth during the past five years with an all-time high in exports recorded in May.
