WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Police responded to reports of a shooting in the U.S. city of Dayton, Ohio, early Sunday morning, local police said.

"We are actively investigating an active shooter incident in the #OregonDistrict. Please avoid the area," the Dayton Police Department tweeted.

According to local media, multiple people were reportedly shot in the incident.

The Huffpost, a U.S. news outlet, quoted a local health network spokeswoman as saying that victims from the shooting were expected to arrive in hospital, without giving a specific number.

The attack came hours after a mass shooting at the border city of El Paso in the state of Texas left 20 people dead and 26 wounded. A 21-year-old white male has been arrested by Texas police.
