PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- One police officer was killed and three police personnel were wounded in a bomb attack in Pul-e-Khumri city, northern Afghanistan on Monday, provincial police spokesman said.

"The incident occurred when police officers aboard a vehicle were on routine patrol early Monday morning. The police van was also damaged in the explosion," spokesman Jawid Basharat told Xinhua.

The city, capital of northern Baghlan province, has witnessed a string of bomb attacks since early this year.

The police official has blamed enemies of peace, referring to the Taliban militant group, for the attack, but Taliban has not made a comment yet.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since the beginning of 2015 when the Afghan security forces assumed full responsibilities of security from the United States and NATO troops.

The militants also intensified attacks against security forces and staged several coordinated large-scale attacks against Afghan cities and districts since early April when the Taliban's so-called yearly rebel offensive started.
