BUCHAREST, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A German citizen was detained together with his Romanian partner by the local police in Bistrita-Nasaud county, northern Romania, on the accusation that they initiated an outdoor cannabis culture.

According to a statement released Wednesday by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), the two defendants, aged 61 and 48, respectively, have been cultivating several cannabis plants in a building's garden since spring this year.

DIICOT prosecutors and local police officers carried out three home searches throughout the county and discovered 20 kilograms of dried cannabis, 5 kilos of green cannabis as well as cannabis seeds.

The dry substance was concealed and packaged in 320 packages sealed and ready for sale, on labels being applied those that incorrectly attested their content as different natural products, being attributed to a manufacturer known in the field of selling such products.

During the house searches, several equipment that constituted an indoor laboratory for growing cannabis plants were also identified.

The two will be presented later on Wednesday to the County Court with a proposal for a preventive arrest for a period of 30 days.
