PRAGUE, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Splendid fireworks show in the New Year celebration every year in Czech Republic's capital Prague will be replaced by video mapping because of protests against its impact on children and animals, the Prague City Council tweeted Wednesday.
"Prague will change for the New Year. Instead of New Year's fireworks, people can look forward to video mapping. This decision by the city leadership is a step towards accommodating not only the inhabitants of the metropolis, but also nature," said the City Council on its twitter account.
Earlier this year, some 15,500 people signed a petition to regulate fireworks operation. They were most concerned about the impact of noisy firefighters and firecrackers on children and animals.
The place where the New Year's video mapping will be screened has not yet been selected by the councilors.
