KABUL, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan cabinet has approved an action plan to prevent, reduce and manage air-pollution in capital Kabul, said a statement of the Presidential Palace Thursday.

The action plan, presented by the senior presidential advisor on transportation affairs recently and approved by the cabinet, directs the related organs to coordinate with the advisory office for the implementation of the plan, the statement said.

According to reports, Kabul has been listed among the top 10 polluted cities in the world. For many Afghan people, pollution is a strong silent killer.

Thick smog of dirt and fumes are visible with wide coverage all over the city and spread along the mountainous sides.

Plagued by long conflict with the insurgency, the government of Afghanistan lacked the technology to monitor pollution levels in the most populated capital city.

There is no official statistics on how many people are being affected by pollutions or how many die annually as a result.
