New president ranks first among Lithuanian politicians with highest approval: survey

VILNIUS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's new president Gitanas Nauseda ranks first in July among Lithuanian politicians with highest approval, a new survey showed on Thursday.

According to a survey commissioned by news agency Elta and conducted by pollster Baltijos Tyrimai, Nauseda had 85 percent approval and 9 percent disapproval rating in July. The president's ranking was the highest out of 30 most popular Lithuanian politicians and public figures.

The survey was carried out on July 15-29, after the president's inauguration ceremony on July 12. Nauseda was elected as Lithuania's new leader back in May and succeeded the former president Dalia Grybauskaite after her two terms at the office.

Lithuania's former president Valdas Adamkus ranked second with 83 percent approval and 10 percent disapproval ratings, while Grybauskaite was third with 64 percent of approval and 30 percent disapproval.

Lithuania's Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis had 42 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval rating, while minister of health Aurelijus Veryga had the highest disapproval rating of 67 percent on the list, while his approval stood at 27 percent.
