BANGKOK, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Thai Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit told media on Friday that the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) had earlier asked him to use local materials to build state funded mega infrastructure projects.
Suriya said FTI representatives ask if his ministry can set up mandatory guidelines to use and buy at least 90 percent of local materials in building the mega projects.
One of the mega projects include the high-speed railway project that links three major airports in Thailand.
Suriya said he would discuss the issue with Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana.
FTI chairman Supant Mongkolsuthree told media that the Thai government should regard Thai-made materials as priority and should promote the standard of Thai industrial products.
The FTI said that in the wake of an unpredictable economy, the Thai government should find ways to help Thai industries and businesses to survive.
