MADRID, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Spanish judge on Friday decided that football will be played on Friday's but not on Monday's in the Spanish Football League LaLiga.
Judge Andres Sanchez Magro made the decision to end a conflict between LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation, who have been at loggerheads over kickoff times for several months.
LaLiga had scheduled games in the Liga Santander and the Spanish second division Liga SmartBank to be played on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to allow all 10 matches in the Liga Santander to be shown live on TV.
However, the RFEF argued they had the jurisdiction to fix the timetable and said no games would be played either on Friday or Monday, however, the Federation accepted the decision with a communique expressing "satisfaction" at the decision.
LaLiga meanwhile issued a communique saying they will appeal and have called a general meeting for the clubs on Monday.
The ruling means the new season will kick off on Friday 16th when Athletic Club Bilbao entertain league champions FC Barcelona in the San Mames Stadium.
Monday night kick-offs were especially unpopular with supporters' groups, who argued that games kicking off at 21.00 on a working day meant fewer fans attended games, with parents especially unlikely to take children to a match if they had school the next day and were unlikely to get home before midnight.
