CANBERRA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Australia officially launched the annual Science Week on Saturday, with over 1,000 science events scheduled across the nation.

On Saturday, an all-things-science community event was held at the Shine Dome in Canberra, which included the family-friendly InterACTive Science in the afternoon, followed by InterACTive Science: After Dark, which features adult-targeted content in the evening.

Both events featured interactive presentations, hands-on activities, engaging stalls, food stalls among others to showcase STEM in the nation's capital.

"This event is a great opportunity for the community to get involved in science and meet local researchers," said ACT (Australian Capital Territory) National Science Week Committee co-chair Michelle Kothe.

Exploring the scientific sites of Canberra, seeing a space shuttle made from glass, discovering the science behind your favorite drink and learning the naughty secrets of the deep ocean were all parts of National Science Week in the ACT.

The Science Week will last till Aug. 18th.
