YANGON, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Defense Services Technological Academy in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay region, was attacked by an unidentified militant group armed with heavy weapons on Thursday morning, said an official of the True News Information Team of the military.
The incident took place at about 05:00 a.m. local time, damaging parts of the academy.
Several checkpoints and a police station of Nawnghkio and Gote Twin in Shan state also came under attack and one civilian was killed, Maj-Gen Tun Tun Nyi of the information team told Xinhua.
A number of civilians were injured in an attack at Nawnghkio checkpoint, said a police personnel who was assigned at the checkpoint.
A X-ray machine was destroyed at a checkpoint for Narcotic Drugs in Nawnghkio township and some roads are blocked as there are still some attacks launching near Gote Twin township, the police personnel added.
