BUCHAREST, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- An alcoholic patient killed four and injured nine wielding a drip stand on Sunday morning, at the Sapoca Neuropsychiatry Hospital in Buzau County, southeastern Romania.
The incident took place in two rooms of the hospital, where several patients were sedated or restrained in bed.
"Around 03:30 this morning, one of the patients admitted to the acute psychiatric ward under normal supervision took a drip stand and struck patients in their head, in his ward and an adjacent one, where women were admitted," said the hospital.
Three died at the scene, and one died after being transported to the intensive care unit of the Buzau County Hospital, it said, adding that among those wounded, three patients sustained major head traumas.
The aggressor is a 38-year-old unemployed man in the county, who was voluntarily hospitalized with alcohol withdrawal symptoms on Thursday.
He tried to run away after the attack, but he was stopped by a police officer at the scene who was there for the admission of another patient.
Prosecutors have started the criminal prosecution for the aggravated murder, announced the local prosecutor's office, specifying that the aggressor is under strict medical supervision, but the alcohol withdrawal may take several hours or even a few days, after which his interviewing will begin.
