CAIRO, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Egypt strongly condemned the recent drone attack launched by Yemen's Houthi group against an oil field in southeastern Saudi Arabia, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"Egypt supports all necessary measures to preserve the security and stability of the kingdom," the statement said, warning against targeting vital facilities in Saudi Arabia and undermining its energy infrastructure.

On Saturday, a Houthi drone attack on Saudi Arabia's Shaybah Oil Field caused minor fire in a gas plant and limited damage with no injuries, according to the Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources.

The Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack on the same day.

The Egyptian leadership under President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi considers Saudi Arabia a key regional ally.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen for more than four years in support of the exiled Yemeni government of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
