WAKISO, Uganda, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's heavy construction machinery company Sany Heavy Industry on Sunday opened an operation center here as the company seeks inroads into Africa.
The company through its local dealer Pearltrac (U) Ltd, a subsidiary of Tian Tang Group, opened the center at Namanve Industrial Park, in the central Ugandan district of Wakiso.
The operation center has a showroom, service center, maintenance workshop and spare parts warehouse.
Zhou Wanchun, vice president of Sany Heavy Industry, said the company has plans of making Uganda a launch pad to the rest of Africa.
"This a very important step forward in course of Sany's internationalization and its development in Africa," Zhou said.
Evelyn Anite, Minister of State for Investment and Privatization, said Uganda would give support to Sany and other Chinese companies in the country.
Anite assured Sany of a readily available market for its products.
Zhao Xiufen, economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese embassy in Uganda, said the relation between the two countries continues to deepen.
She said Uganda in 2018 ranked the third in Africa as a destination of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The FDI from China to Uganda in 2018 was over 270 million U.S. dollars.
