FDI in Bulgaria grows by 337 mln USD in H1

SOFIA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2019 grew year-on-year by 304.5 million euros (337.26 million U.S. dollars), preliminary data showed on Monday.

From January to June 2019, FDI in Bulgaria presented according to the directional principle recorded a positive value of 457.1 million euros or 0.8 percent of the gross domestic product, while in the same period of 2018 the figures were 152.6 million euros and 0.3 percent, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said.

Equity recorded a negative value of 687.6 million euros in January - June 2019, dropping by 495.1 million euros from a negative value of 192.6 million euros in January - June 2018, BNB said.

Real estate investments of non-residents were 3.3 million euros in H1 of 2019, compared with 10.9 million euros attracted from January-June 2018, BNB said.

Meanwhile, reinvestment of earnings was estimated at 48.5 million euros and the net flow of debt instruments totaled 1.096 billion euros from January-June 2019, compared with 76.7 million euros and 268.4 million euros in the same period of 2018 respectively, the report showed.

The largest net direct investment inflows in the Balkan country in H1 came from Germany (125 million euros), followed by Britain (119.3 million euros) and the Netherlands (101.7 million euros), BNB added.
