DUBLIN, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Irish High Court ruled on Wednesday morning to block Ireland-based Ryanair pilots from striking on Aug. 22-23.
Ryanair welcomes the ruling, saying in a Twitter statement that it "will come as a huge relief to thousands of Irish passengers and their families during the last week of the school holidays."
All Ryanair flights scheduled to depart on the two days from Irish airports will now operate as normal, it added.
Rynair called on the FORSA Union, the parent body of the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association which represents some 180 Dublin-based pilots directly employed by Ryanair, and the pilots to return to mediation to solve any disputes over pay increases.
Meanwhile, Ryanair said on its Tweeter account that it has applied on Wednesday "to the UK High Court for an injunction to prevent an unjustified strike by a small minority of UK pilots on Aug. 22-23."
"If this injunction is successful then the risk of flight disruption will be removed," it noted, adding "We will continue to do all we can to minimise disruption to our customers."
Earlier this month, Ryanair pilots in the UK and Ireland voted to strike in a dispute over pay and conditions.
