BERLIN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A week before elections in Saxony and Brandenburg, there were no clear majorities for the political parties running for the federal state parliaments, according to the Politbarometer survey published by German public broadcaster ZDF on Friday.
In Brandenburg, currently governed by a coalition of the German Social Democrats (SPD) and the Left Party (Die Linke), the SPD would gain 21 percent of the vote, the survey showed.
The SPD would be closely followed by the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), which would receive 20 percent of the vote.
According to the survey, the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) was third place in Brandenburg with 18 percent of voter support.
The Greens and the Left Party (Die Linke) each came in at 14 percent, while the German liberal Free Democrats (FDP) would gain five percent of the vote, the Politbarometer found.
A similar majority in which the SPD and AfD were on a par with 22 percent had already been shown by an infratest-dimap survey published on Thursday for public broadcaster ARD.
In Saxony, the governing CDU party would be the strongest party with 31 percent while the AfD would be the second strongest party with 25 percent of the vote, according to the survey.
Compared to the trend at the beginning of July, the CDU had gained four percentage points, while the AfD lost two percentage points in Saxony, the ZDF Politbarometer found.
Saxony is currently governed by a coalition of CDU and SPD under Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU).
The latest Politbarometer showed, however, that the Social Democrats would only reach nine percent of the vote if the elections were held tomorrow.
The German Left Party would reach 14 percent of the vote, followed by the Greens with ten percent. The FDP would enter the state parliament with five percent.
