Rwandan scholar Tom Ndahiro, who works for the Kigali-based Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center, is interviewed by Xinhua in Kigali, capital of Rwanda, on Aug. 13, 2019. In recent two decades, Rwanda has registered remarkable progress in unity and reconciliation among its people. As part of efforts to reconstruct the country and nurture a shared national identity, the Rwandan government drew on aspects of Rwandan culture and traditional practices to enrich its development programs. About 1 million people were killed in Rwanda during the 100-day genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. (Xinhua/Lyu Tianran)
