Ghana police arrest key suspect in policeman-killing incident

ACCRA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Police in Ghana have arrested one Eric Kojo Duah who is believed to be the key suspect in a shooting incident on Wednesday in which two policemen lost their lives.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday on the Adomi bridge at Senchi, near Akosombo, about 96 km north-east of the capital, a statement from local police said.

"Eric Kojo Dua who was declared wanted after the shooting incident on Wednesday at Buduburam was arrested this morning in a combined operation of police officers led by personnel of the national operations department," the statement said.

Two policemen from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) were shot dead on Wednesday at Gomoa Buduburam, 38 km west of the capital by armed men traveling in an unregistered salon car.

The government directed the police service on Friday to arm personnel of the MTTD going on motor traffic duties.

As many as five police personnel lost their lives in August after being attacked by armed men during their assignments across the country.
