WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Hurricane Dorian, now a category 2 storm delivering 120 mph winds, is expected to get "dangerously" close to southeastern U.S. state of Florida late Tuesday and into Wednesday, U.S. forecasters said Tuesday.
Afterwards, the storm is expected to continue toward the Georgia and South Carolina coasts. By the end of the week, it is expected to be shadowing the coasts of North Carolina and Virginia, said forecasters.
The storm, one of the strongest on record in the Atlantic, has whipped the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane with strong winds and rising waters since Sunday, killing at least five people.
Even if the hurricane's center does not reach the Florida coast, much of Florida's eastern coast is susceptible to dangerous storm surges, said local media reports.
