BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Blood Donation Centre of the Laboratory Services Department under Brunei's Ministry of Health announced that members of the public in Brunei are welcome to donate blood in September.

According to local daily the Borneo Bulletin on Wednesday, the donation campaign aims to increase blood supply especially for blood transfusions for patients with Thalassemia, blood-related health problems and patients undergoing surgery.

The Blood Donation Centre said a frequent and voluntary blood donation is vital to the nation's stockpile to be able to meet hospitals' needs in the country. The campaign will be held at different locations from Wednesday to Sept. 26.

Over the years, blood collection drives are becoming a more and more common sight across the sultanate; either during any events, in schools, shopping centres, government offices, in private company premises and public places.

"Keeping donor blood flowing in Brunei has been a daily challenge for the nation's blood bank," Chong Kim Moi, Head of Blood Donation Centre told Xinhua during an interview in July.

Main mission of the center has always been to ensure sufficient safe blood supply for the nation's need through conducting blood donation drives daily. Even a two-day suspension could affect the blood stocks significantly, said the official.
