ASADABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- As many as 150 militants surrendered to the government in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province on Wednesday, the deputy provincial governor said.
"Following efforts by local elders and personnel of the national intelligence agency, a total of 110 Taliban militants and 40 IS members joined the government-initiated peace and reconciliation process," Gul Mohammad Bidar told a welcoming ceremony held here.
They also brought 150 rounds of heavy machine guns and firearms, the official added.
With their surrender, peace and stability would be further strengthened in the mountainous province, 180 km east of Kabul, the official noted.
