TRIPOLI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed government said on Thursday its air force launched five airstrikes against the east-based army in south of the capital Tripoli.
"The air force carried out five airstrikes targeting troops and vehicles of (Khalifa) Haftar's militias in the Al-Urban area," said Mohamed Gunounou, spokesman of the UN-backed government's forces.
For its part, the east-based army announced that it destroyed ammunition depots of the UN-backed government's forces near Tarhuna city, which is located some 90 km south of Tripoli and controlled by the east-based army.
The UN-backed government of Libya has been engaged in an armed conflict with the east-based army in and around Tripoli since April.
Libya has been mired in insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
