LOKOSSA, Sept. 7 ( Xinhua) -- A China-Benin telemedecine center officially opened Friday in Lokossa city, about 80 km southeast to the economic capital Cotonou.

Chinese ambassador to Benin Peng Jingtao and officials of Benin health authorities jointly presided over the opening ceremony as a landmark in the China-Benin cooperation in health sector.

The Lokossa center will enable health professionals in Yinchuan City, in China, to share experience with counterparts in Benin, and provide them with guidelines as part of remote medical interventions.

"Through China-Benin telemedecine center in Lokossa, the Chinese medical mission in Africa is closely linked to the homeland and a new chapter is opened in the China-Benin cooperation," Peng commented.

He underscored the Lokossa telemedecine center will contribute to a "rapid development of the cooperation in health sector between China and Benin."

Eunice Pedro, representing Benin health minister, said when operational the center will help reduce medical evacuations and will improve the access to quality health services in the African country.
