ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Peace and Security Council has hailed the formation of Sudan's transitional government on Thursday as an exemplary mobilization towards democratic transformation in the country.

The council, in a statement issued on Saturday that followed its Friday's meeting on the current situation in Sudan at the headquarters of the AU in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, commended the Sudanese people and all concerned political and civil society actors for their contribution to the positive progresses in Sudan's ongoing peace process.

"The Council commended the people of Sudan and all concerned political and civil society actors for the signing of the Political Agreement on July 17, the Constitutional Document on August 17, and the exemplary mobilization towards democratic transformation in Sudan, through the establishment of Transitional Government on September 5," an AU statement issued Saturday read.

The council further encourages the Sudanese people and all political actors "to persevere in their determination to successfully carry out the transition towards the organization and holding of elections."

On Thursday, Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok had revealed the formation of the transitional cabinet, the first since the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir, citing a constitutional decree issued by the chairman of the Sovereign Council.

The decree appointed 18 ministers, but delayed the naming of the ministers of two ministries, including the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

The 55-member pan African bloc also on Saturday reiterated its "full support to the Sudanese Transitional Government and encourages them, as well as all other stakeholders, to work towards its successful conclusion, notably the organization of free, fair and transparent legislative and presidential elections that will mark the end of the transitional period."
