Kenyans shine at Budapest Half Marathon

BUDAPEST, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Some 14,500 runners from 84 countries and regions took part in the 34th Budapest Half Marathon here on Sunday.

Event organizers said 2,500 foreigners participated in the competition, a ten percent increase from last year.

Runners from Kenya dominated the men's category, Laban Cheruiyot won gold with a time of 1:04:56, followed by compatriots Biwot Wycliffe Kipkorir (01:05:41) and Elijah Mutuku Wambua (01:07:01).

In the women's category, the gold went to local hero Zita Kacser, who triumphed by a hair against Kenya's Hellen Jepkosgei Kimutai, with both runners classified as having run in a time of 1:17:47. The bronze medal went to Hungary's Zsofia Virag-Erdelyi.
