KHARTOUM, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Monday stressed the necessity of removing Sudan from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism and increasing the assistance for Sudan.

"Egypt is working to stimulate removal of Sudan's name from the terror sponsors lists," said Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at a joint press conference with Sudan's foreign minister in Khartoum.

"After the positive changes in Sudan, continuation of Sudan on the terror list does not agree with the reality. Any restrictions must be lifted from Sudan," he noted.

He said that "Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi focuses, through all forums, on removal of Sudan's name from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, increasing the assistance for Sudan and building upon the positive change which took place in Sudan."

Shoukry on Monday held separate talks in Khartoum with Sudan's foreign minister, prime minister and chairman of the sovereign council.

"The talks of the Egyptian foreign minister in Khartoum have stressed on the historical ties between Sudan and Egypt," said Sudan's Foreign Minister Asma Mohamed Abdullah at the joint press conference.

"It has been agreed during the talks on continuation of cooperation in all fields and reactivation of all the joint committees between the two sides," she added.

Shoukry arrived in Khartoum on Monday as the first Egyptian official to visit Sudan after Sudan's new government took the constitutional oath on Sunday.
