SARAJEVO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Members of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Border Police (BiHBP) arrested five members of a criminal group on Monday who are charged with migrant smuggling, BiHBP said in a press statement.
During the international operation code-named "River" in the country's northwest region, BiHBP documented the smuggling of at least 315 migrants. For each case the members of the criminal group took 1,000 euros (1,100 U.S. dollars).
Organized from Serbia, the group allegedly smuggled migrants through BiH to Croatia, Slovenia and other European Union (EU) countries.
During a raid at five locations, BiHBP members seized items that BiH citizens allegedly used and which will be evidence in criminal proceedings.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of BiH's Prosecutor's Office and the Court of BiH. Its aim was to identify, detect and prosecute smugglers and to intercept organized crime groups.
