RIGA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- If Britain asks the European Union (EU) to delay Brexit again, such request should not be immediately rejected but discussed, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said on Monday.
"I would rather keep a possibility for debate. If the British government or parliament would ask to prolong the time of the European Union membership of the country, we should look at the conditions rather than immediately reject it," Rinkevics said in an interview with Latvian public television.
He noted that currently there are very many uncertainties concerning Brexit and the situation is extraordinary.
"Nobody, including the British government, knows what will happen on October 31," the Latvian foreign minister said.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed to take Britain out of the EU on Oct. 31 with or without a deal. The British parliament last week passed a bill that allows forcing Johnson to ask the EU to delay Brexit until January if no deal is reached.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has rejected any further delay on Brexit, saying "we can't do this every three months".
