KHARTOUM, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's government and armed groups have agreed to hold peace talks on October 14, according to a declaration released by Sudan's sovereignty council on Wednesday.
The declaration was issued after talks held in South Sudan's capital Juba between representatives of Sudan government and armed groups from Sudan's Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions, under a mediation initiative by South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The two sides have also agreed to form specialized committees to arrange for the peace negotiations, follow up procedures of releasing the prisoners of war and the convicted ones, supervise measures of cessation of hostilities and approve the monitoring mechanism.
Sudan's newly-formed government, led by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, has listed realization of peace in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile as a top priority.
