MAMI Mumbai film festival to be held on Oct. 17-24

MUMBAI, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- MAMI Mumbai Films Festival to be held in the Indian financial hub on Oct. 17-24 has lined up 10 films to be screened in the gold section, which is an exclusive competition category for the latest Indian films, a statement said on Friday.

The festival, in its 21st year, will also screen three world premiere and six Indian premieres out of the 10 in competition, the statement said.

"We are an International film festival but bringing the best Indian narratives to the world and to India is at the core of our mission," said Smriti Kiran, artistic director of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) which organizes the festival.

With over two decades of experience in television and film industry, Kiran has worked with prestigious company to create flagship properties and has been the creative director of MAMI for the past four years.

"Festivals from across the world have now begun to look at us as the gateway to credible Indian cinema and we take that responsibility very seriously," she said.

MAMI was founded by a group of film industry stalwarts in 1997 with an aim to engage film lovers from all walks of life to foster an ideal climate of good cinema across the country.

The 10 films this year across six Indian languages will be watched by a Jury of esteemed film personalities from around the world and are an exciting celebration of country's cultural diversity, the statement said.
