RABAT, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale to Morocco of missiles and F-16 ammunition at an estimated value of 985 million U.S. dollars.
The Pentagon's Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA), in a statement published on Friday by Moroccan media, said that the estimated cost of various anti-armor TOW-2A missiles is 776 million U.S. dollars.
The DSCA also said the Pentagon has approved a possible sale to Morocco of additional F-16 ammunition for an estimated cost of 209 million U.S. dollars.
The deal is meant to improve Morocco's capability to meet current and future threats of "terror" from violent extremist organizations prevalent throughout the region, it added.
The proposed sale of this equipment will not alter the basic military balance in the region, according to the DSCA statement.
