BANJUL, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Gambia government said it has banned several top officials of the former government of Yahya Jammeh from holding public office for life amid the disclosure of the commission of inquiry findings which probed into financial dealings of former president Yahya Jammeh and his associates.
"Mr Amadou Colley, former governor of Central Bank of The Gambia is hereby banned from holding public office for the remainder of his life. He is also banned from holding any director positions in any state-owned enterprises in the Gambia for 20 years from the date of publication of this White Paper," said the government on Friday.
Njogou Bah and Momodou Sabally who both served as secretary generals at the time, have also faced similar life time ban alongside former director of Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation, Momodou L. Gibba.
"As the longest serving member of former President Jammeh's Cabinet and given her position as vice president of the republic, Dr Isatou Saidy's conduct fell far short of the standards expected of an occupier of the Office of the Vice President of the Republic. Consequently, Dr Isatou Njie Saidy is hereby banned from holding public office for five years from date of publication of this White Paper," the government said.
However, the government said it has rejected the recommendation of the Commission to fire the chief of protocol Alhagie Ousman Ceesay, who is presently serving the same position.
