Bangladesh approves development projects worth 1.06 bln USD

DHAKA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's highest economic policy-making body has approved eight development projects worth 89.68 billion taka (about 1.06 billion U.S. dollars).

The projects were approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan told journalists that the projects include a 23.88 billion taka program to set up eight cancer treatment centers in eight Bangladesh divisions.

He said five projects are new while the rest three are revised projects.

Of the total project cost, according to the minister, 89.52 billion taka will come from the national exchequer and about 154 million taka from project assistance. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 84 Bangladeshi taka)
