Chinese film festival kicks off in Nepal to mark 70th anniversary of PRC

KATHMANDU, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China which falls on October 1, the three-day "China Film Festival" is now underway in Nepal's capital.

The festival starting from Tuesday, jointly hosted by China Cultural Center in Nepal and Network of International Culturalink Entities under the patronage of Chinese Embassy in Nepal, is screening six popular Chinese films for Nepali audiences.

Addressing the inaugural event attended by Nepali artists, actors, film students and representatives of Nepali movie industry, Chairman of Nepal Film Development Board Keshab Bhattarai said that Nepali films can learn a lot from the Chinese film industry.

"Chinese films are quiet popular worldwide due to the presence of Chinese characteristics, latest technology and good marketing management, we can learn from them to flourish our film industry, "Bhattarai said.

Stating that such festivals will help in strengthening cultural relations between the people of two countries, he also took the occasion to urge the Chinese representatives to have cooperation with Nepali film industry in the days to come.

Deepak Sarkar, head of World Cultural Net, which is the co-organizer of the festival, said that the festival will help in deepening the understanding and friendship between the people.

On the opening day, two films Operation Mekong and Wolf Totem were screened in the theater of Rastriya Nachghar. The film festival will also showcase the movies The Grandmaster, Running like Wind, Battle of Memories and Go away Mr. Tumor on Wednesday and Thursday.

Besides film screening, the festival will also hold a special lecture session on "Forty Years of Chinese Film in Reform and Opening Up: Historical Achievement and Current Pattern."
