BUCHAREST, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Romania and Poland will work to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and infrastructure, the prime ministers of the two countries said on Wednesday.
Romania plays an important role in energy, having gas reserves in the Black Sea and energy reserves on land that would ensure gas supply to Central Europe, visiting Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a press statement alongside his Romanian counterpart Viorica Dancila.
"We are also building an infrastructure so that Poland can become a gas distributor, a connector from Slovakia, through Hungary, to Romania, and this can also ensure the security of sources based on a partnership in joint projects," the Polish prime minister said.
In terms of road infrastructure, he specifically mentioned the ambitious project of Via Carpatia that would link the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, would increase trade, tourism cooperation, between the two countries.
Dancila hailed the signing of several memorandums of understanding, stressing that "based on a relation with tradition, on converging interests and a common destiny, Romanian-Polish collaboration has developed in a powerful, viable strategic partnership oriented towards the future."
According to Dancila, the two sides also talked about the European issues, where the two countries will cooperate closely, on the basis of similar visions, positions and approaches regarding a series of current subjects on the European agenda, such as Brexit, the Multiannual Financial Framework, the Cohesion Policy, and the Common Agricultural Policy.
The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative.
Morawiecki was in Romania to participate in the second round of Romanian-Polish inter-governmental consultations.
