MANILA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and another was injured after a building being demolished collapsed in Malate, Metro Manila on Monday morning, police said.
Police said the accident happened at around 9:30 a.m. local time when a part of a local budget hotel collapsed while workers were doing demolition work, triggering panic in the area.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said 22 workers were on the job site when the accident happened. The bodies of the two workers were recovered under the debris after more than five hours, Moreno said.
Moreno has already ordered the management of the hotel to check if there are still other customers inside when the collapse happened.
Rescue operations are still ongoing on the site.
A supervisor said earlier that the two dead workers were last seen on the third floor of the building.
