BRUSSELS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of visitors turned up on Wednesday at the China-EU Sports Day event highlighting China's culture and modern development in the EU district of Brussels.

Hosted by the Mission of China to the EU, the event showcased Chinese cultural activities ranging from Tai Chi to waist drum and dragon dance, as well as live traditional Chinese music and tea tasting.

Using augmented reality (AR) technology, the organizers projected the life-size image of China's famous Temple of Heaven on screen.

Days away from the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1, the event also featured videos and exhibitions testifying to the country's development over the past decades.

Ambassador Zhang Ming, head of the Mission of China to the EU, said China and the EU are two major civilizations in the world that have continuously contributed wisdom and strength to human development and progress.

The event is part of the European Week of Sports. Mbo Jerome Mpenza, former Belgian footballer and football coach, was also invited to the event.

He said he would like to visit China and would like to see further sports exchanges between Belgium and China in the future.
