LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Air force military aerobatic teams from three nations performed precision formations on Friday, the opening day of the 2019 Great Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach, a coastal city in Southern California.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the Red Arrows of the United Kingdom, and the Snowbirds from Canada headlined the three-day annual event, one of the largest airshows in the United States.

The three aerobatic teams will be joined by the U.S. Air Force F-35 Lightning II and A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Teams and the U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet. A world-class lineup of civilian performers will also make up the roster of the show.

Since its launch in 2016, the airshow, previously called the Breitling Huntington Beach Airshow in the first two years, has seen an explosion in popularity year after year. The event attracted around 1.5 million people to the Huntington Beach in 2017 and more than 2 million attendees in 2018.

About 2.5 million people are expected to make their way to the fourth annual event, local news outlet KABC-TV quoted the airshow director as saying.
