Over 4.15 bln USD of foreign investment enter Myanmar in FY 2018-19

YANGON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Over 4.15 billion U.S. dollars of investment capital from the permitted foreign enterprises entered Myanmar in the fiscal year 2018-2019 which ended in September, according to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) on Saturday.

From Oct. 1, 2018 to Sept. 30 this year, 282 foreign enterprises were approved by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC).

During the period, the transport and communication sector topped the list with over 1.53 billion U.S. dollars, followed by manufacturing sector with over 1.34 billion U.S. dollars and other services with 650 million U.S. dollars.

The figures dropped by over 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, compared to the FY 2017-2018 when Myanmar attracted over 5.7 billion U.S. dollars of foreign investment.

From FY 1988-1989 to FY 2018-2019, the country attracted 81.8 billion U.S. dollars from 1,837 permitted foreign enterprises.

Singapore, China and Thailand stood as the three leading investors. The oil and gas sector attracted most foreign investment, followed by power and manufacturing sectors.

Regionally, Yangon region attracted 60 percent of both local and foreign investment, followed by Mandalay region with 30 percent.
