KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Nine people including six insurgents and three police were killed as a clash erupted in Qala-e-Zal district of northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province on Sunday, head of provincial council Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi said.

The clash broke out after a group of Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Aqtipa area in the outskirt of Qala-e-Zal district headquarters in the morning, triggering a gun battle, which lasted for a few hours. As a result, six militants and three police were killed, Ayubi said.

Eight more Taliban militants and three police were wounded in the firefight, the official added.

A girls' school was damaged as a rocket fired by militants struck the school building, Ayubi said.
