Poland holds economic forum amid challenges

WARSAW, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Kongres 590, a two-day economic forum, was inaugurated on Monday in southeastern Poland, where political and business leaders discuss global challenges and the Polish economy.

"The most important goal of the government is to increase the quality of life for regular citizens. This is the most important, the most valuable, and it is what we want to achieve," Polish President Andrzej Duda told the forum in Jasionka, which is taking place under the patronage of the Polish president and prime minister.

Kongres 590 is a forum to exchange ideas and experiences among Polish specialists from business, science, politics and law sectors. The main topic is future development directions for the country based on current global challenges.

The event is made up of tens of parallel events. Among the topics discussed are adapting the Polish economy to environmental and technological challenges, Poland's position in the European Union, or the role of foreign investors in the economic model of a "Polish welfare state" proposed by governing Law and Justice Party (PiS).
