VILNIUS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- President Gitanas Nauseda said here on Monday that Lithuania hopes to import more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.

Nauseda made the remarks when meeting visiting U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry, who is here on Oct. 6-7 to attend the Baltic-U.S. Ministerial Meeting and the Ministerial Conference on the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation, according to a statement released by the President's Office.

Nauseda and Perry discussed political and energy cooperation between the U.S. and Lithuania and the Baltic States, the statement said.

"Regular high-level energy dialogue between the Baltic State and the U.S. is our key to success and security," Nauseda said.

Lithuania, a Baltic country with a population of 3 million, built an LNG terminal back in 2014 amid efforts to diversify its gas supplies and reduce dependency on the Russian gas.

According to Lithuanian Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas, so far "only a few" LNG cargos from the U.S. have been shipped to the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda.
