DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Tuesday launched registration of voters for the civic polls slated for Nov. 24, urging the voters to choose dedicated leaders.

"I urge fellow Tanzanians to come up in big numbers during the polls and choose leaders that are dedicated toward the development of the country," said Magufuli in Nkasi district in Rukwa region in an event broadcast live by state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation.

The president, who is on a nine-day working visit to Songwe, Rukwa and Katavi regions in the southern highlands, said the voters should avoid choosing corrupt leaders.

The registration of voters will be held on Oct. 8-14.

On Sept. 13, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa warned people against involvement in corrupt practices during the civic elections.

Adjourning the National Assembly's two-week meeting in the capital Dodoma, the premier also warned that people should not dare cause chaos during the civic polls.

Majaliwa said stakeholders in the civic polls from political parties, government institutions and non-governmental organizations should read and understand the polls regulations.
